Ethnography

I found that ethnography is the analytical and comparative study of cultures in general. This is according to Britannica.com. They also say that is the academic field for anthropology. Another definition that i found was the formulating of generalization about culture and the drawing of comparisons. Or plainly stated a branch of anthropology dealing with the scientific description of individual culture. According to wikipedia ethnography is applied to many things. The three main things are cultural anthropology, sociology, and communication studies. It compares to cultural anthropology by both of them being about observing what people do and how they act with in there culture. Sociology is compared to ethnography by them both of them studying the human interactions with in an environment. Communication studies involves ethnography by using it to research methods to analyze communication behaviors. For example studying the speech patterns is a riot. Biocultural is the study of human biology and culture and also video ethnography. The ethnography that I read was about a guy who was impaired with a condition like cerebral palsy. He did the article on people who are impaired and how it is hard for them to act in certain types of environments. the environment he did was a pub that he always went to . HE wrote it because he wants to show others who aren't impaired how people sometimes like him feels and to help them understand why. from the physical toughness of getting around, from the looks that other people who don't understand give him/them. I would call this an ethnography because he was personelly connceted to it but puts analysis with it . At first i thought it sounded bias because he was impaired also he just wasn't an observer he knew how it felt and had feelings towards how people reacted towards his condition. Later on it became less bias, with how he was writing. For writing my own ethnography paper i would say that i learned not to be bias form the start and to really observe what is going on and how people react to it.

Description

My place I choose for my site is a tai kwon do studio in Belmount. This is something that has always interested me but never was able to do it as a kid. What interested me was how they were always so serious in there tournaments and in classes. Also the techniques that they do and how they teach the skills. I want to find out if they have a certain meaning behind it and what is the process of learning tae kwon doe.
